The factor stereo unit, as show above, is effective for performing basic tasks in the integration of audio within the vehicle. A simple solution to this problem is the installation of an aftermarket stereo unit that can be wired into the existing vehicle wiring and mounted in place of the factory
unit. Many companies offer installation services, but this guide gives a unique self installation option. Any stereo unit that is of size 1 DIN can safely fit within the dash. An aftermarket stereo would not only offer the user better sound quality, but more advanced features, such as reading MP3 file formats. Many times a vehicle is un level (side-to-side) from the factory, but usually not noticed until a lift kit has been installed which makes the difference more visible. When diagnosing a no start condition these days, it’s always a good idea to consider if the vehicle has a theft deterrent system that could be the cause. There’s nothing more frustrating than chasing, say, a no crank, or a start and stall, only to find that the system is “only doing its job”! On many older vehicles, you can only check with the owner to see what, if any, after-market ” alarm” may have been added. Car companies have increasingly made their own systems available either as options or standard equipment. Before Installation
To prevent damage to your vehicle and the iON take the following precautions.
1. Turn off the ignition and remove the negative (-) battery cable prior to installation.
NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with an on-board drive or navigation computer, do not disconnect the battery cable. If the battery cable is disconnected, the computer memory may be lost. Under these conditions, use extra caution to avoid causing a short circuit during installation. If your radio has a security code make sure you know the code and how to enter it prior to removing the battery cable. The radio will require this code to operate when the battery terminal is reconnected.
2. Do not install the unit in the following locations:
A. Locations exposed to direct sunlight

MAINTENANCE I SCHEDULE
• Change engine oil and filter. Reset oil life system. (See “Engine Oil.” An Emission Control Service.)
• Visually check for any leaks or damage.
• Rotate and inspect tires. Check inflation pressures and wear.
• Inspect brake system, including brake lines, hoses, pads, calipers, wheel cylinders, rotors, and drums.
• Check engine coolant and windshield washer fluid.
• Perform any needed additional services.
• Trucks: Lubricate front suspension, ball joints, steering linkage, and parking brake cable.
